Zyn Excellentie den Heer Gouverneur Generaal is den 20den dezer in volkomen welstand, van deszelfs togt na de Rivier Ponmaron [sic], met de by zig hebbende Gezelschap, geretourneert, na drie dagen in gemelde Rivier toegebragt te hebben.

Het Edele Collegie der Heeren Kiezers dezer Colonie, zal op Maandag den 2de Juny aanstaande ten Raadhuize alhier Vergaderen, ter formeering eener Nominatie van twee Persoonen, om daar uit voor den Edele Achtb. Hove van Policie te werden verkooren, een Lid in voorschreeve Hove, in plaats van den Wel-Edele Gestrenge Heer Meertens; en van twee Persoonen, om daar uit door den Edele Achtbaare Hove van Justitie te werden verkooren een Lid in gemelde Hove, in plaats van de Wel-Edele Gestrenge Heer & Mr. P. G. Duker, die voor deszelfs Electie bedankt heest.

Op den 21de dezer is binnen deze Hoofdplaats overleeden de Heer Walter Barry, en op den 23den daar aan volgende de Heer Rowland Hackett.

De Sloep Mary, als den geregelde Packett van hier op Barbados vaarende, is den 17 dezer alhier gearriveerd en den 22 daaraan volgende wederom vertrokken. Dit Vaartuig zal voortaan niet langer in Barbados verblyven om na de Engelsche Pacquetten te wagten, als drie dagen; en dezelve reeds aangekomen vindende, zal terstond terug komen, met de aangebragte Brieven.

His Excellency the Governor General is returned safe with his Company and suite, from his voyage to Ponmaron [sic], after having spended three days in said River.

The Honorable Body of the Kiezers (Electors) of this Colony, will assemble at the Court House here, on Monday the 2d. of June next, in order to chuse 2 Candidates for an Election of a Member in the Honorable Court of Police, in place of the Honorable A. Meertens; and two Candidates for an Election of a Member in the Honorable Court of Justice in place of the Honorable P. G. Duker, who has declined accepting of his Election.

On the 21^st. instant died in this place Mr. Walter Barry, and on the 23^d. Mr. Rowland Hackett.

The Sloep Mary, established Packeet from here to Barbados, is arrived here on the 17th. instant and departed on the 22d. following. She shall for the future not stay any longer in Barbados than 3 Days, waiting for the English Packets, and always return immediately, whenever she will find the said Packetts arrived in Barbados.

We have therefore resolved to issue and decree by these presents a higher Colony tax, at the rate of Ä 3 per head, on all slaves whatever, the sick, Runaway, and children comprehended therein: and entrusting to the judicious way of thinking of all the inhabitants, we are persuaded that they shall not only be sensible of the necessity and equity of the reasons, which have induced us, and which renders the raising of reasonable Taxes indispensable in all regular commonaltys, but that they shall also be punctual in paying said Taxes indiscriminately for all slaves, one by one, owned during last year, by each Planter, inhabitant, high and Lower Officer, in Essequebo and Demerary, as well as it is regulated for the above provisory capitation Tax, for the receipt of which contribution (which is to be paid under the same penalty of immediate levy) the receivers shall also attend during the Months of May and June and thus utterly before the first of July next ensuing.
Which respective capitation Taxes and Colony Contributions are to be paid in Bills of Exchange drawn separately, (those drawn on Holland, are to be drawn in Holland Currency and to be paid there) or in cash or else in Colony Assignations: the Receivers of Essequebo and Demerary are ordered to attend daily within said months from nine o-clock in the morning, till one o-clock in the afternoon, excepted Saturdays and Sundays. And finally after having taken into consideration the necessity of it, we have thought proper to order and decree, as we do order and decree by these presents, that all Planters in both Rivers, who since five years have altered the name of their Plantations or who may here after alter the same, as well as those who since that time have divided, shared or sold any part of the Lands of a Plantation, shall be bound and obliged to give notice thereoff [sic] at the Secretarys Offices and to the Fiscals and Receivers of both Rivers.
And in order that no one should pretend ignorance hereof, these presents shall be published in both Rivers, set up there and where it is customary, and send round for reading. Done in the Court of Policie in the chief place Stabroek in Demerary 28 April 1794 and published 8 May following.

The Underwritten requests the Gentlemen Planters & Inhabitants in the Respective Quarters of the Colony, never to suffer or permit, upon what pretence whatever, any of his Post boys to remain to rest, or sleep on their Estates, as their orders are never to remain, rest or sleep but upon such Estates, as where the Correspondence Offices are established; he having found out, that they have many friends on most all the Plantations, and that they are generally delaying and remaining on the same, which puts it out of his power, to execute punctually the duty of his Undertaking.
The [sic] therefore takes the liberty to request the gentlemen Planters and inhabitants in the different Quarters of the Colony, where said Post boys are going, to order their servants and dryvers [sic], to drive them off from their Estates, whenever they shall come there, and incase [sic] of ne[illegible] to drive them off with the whip, by which means he will be able to keep up his Undertaking.

DE COMMISSARIS der Venduen adverteerd by deezen elk en een ygelyk, dat op Woensdag, die zyn zal den 11 Juny aanstaande, ten Huize van den Ondergetekende van wegens de Heer F. I. van der Lott als mede Curator in den gesepareerde Boedel van C. F. Swabbe & Josina Mercieur, publicq zal worden Opgeveild en aan de meestbiedende Verkogt: Thien stucks Slaaven, als meede de Huis‡gien staande op de, door gemelde Swabbe bewerk?e stuk Land in Mahaycony, aan de Westzyde dier kreek, en bekend op de generaale Kaart onder No. 8.
En het geen verder zal werden gepresenteerd. Die er gading in heest komen ten voornoemde dagen & plaatse aanhooren de Conditien & doen zyn profyt.

The COMMISSARY of the Vendues makes hereby known to the Publick, that on Wednesday the 11 of June next, there will be put up for sale to the highest bidder, for account of Mr. F. I. van der Lott, as co-Trustee in the separated Estate of C. F. Swabbe, & Josina Mercieur, at the house of the underwritten: Ten Negro Slaves, also the Buildings standing on the Cultivated piece of Land, belonging to the aforesaid Swabbe, and situated in Mahaicony on the West side of said Creek, and known in the General Cart [sic] under the Number 8.
And what evermore that shall be presented for sale. The Conditions of sale will be read on the prefixed day, & aforesaid place.

Den Ondergeteekende Commissaris der Venduen adverteerd by deezen aan elk en een ygelyk, dat van wegens de Heeren Massé en Capt. Hendrik Doetzen op Maandag den 16 Juny aanstaande presies met de klokke negen uuren, zonder na iemand te wachten, ten Huize van den Ondergeteekende binnen de Hoofdplaats Stabroek zal werden Opgeveild en aan de meestbiedende Verkogt worden; Een extra fraay Cargasoen, groot honderd stuk Goudkust Slaen, aangebragt door het Fregatschip de Hoop, gevoerd door bovengenoemde Capt. H. Doetzen. En waar van de Koopconditien twee dagen voor de Verkoop zullen te zien weezen ten Comptoire van de Commissaris der Venduen.

H. Doetzen.

ADVERTENTIE. [centered]

Den Ondergetekende verzoekt alle Heeren Planters en Ingezetenen der respective Quartieren der Colonie, zyne Brievendragers of Postloopers nooit om wat reede het ook zy, op hunne Plantagien te gedulden, nog te laaten rusten of slaapen; haar orders draagen dat zy nergens anders zullen aangaan nog elders rusten of slaapen, als op zulke plaatsen, alwaar een Correspondentie-Comptoir opgeregt is, en tot des ondergetekendens grooste nadeel moet by ondervinden, dat de gemelde Booden of Postloopers, op alle Plantagien kennisse en aanhang hebben, en dat zy zig overal ophouden, waar door den Ondergeteekende buiten staat gebragt werd de gerequireerde promptitude in deszelfs onderneeming ten onderhouden. Hy neemt dus de vryheid alle Heeren Planters en Inwoonders der respective Districten der Colonie, waar de gemelde Postloopers na toe gaan, te verzoeken, zulke orders aan hunne Bediendens en Bombas te geeven, om de gemelde Boodens van hunne respective plaatsen met Zweepslaagen aftedryven, indien zy zig hierna nog mogten verstouten, om zig contrarie hunne orders te gedragen.
