Roads and Bridges. [centered]
Notice is hereby given, that by the inspection made of the roads and bridges in Essequebo, the roads and bridges of the following Estates, were found not to be according to law, and do require repair or ammendment, in the following particulars, that is to say: -
Island of Wakenham District, [centered]
Surveyd with Captain the Hon. F. Cathrey [sic], on the 25th and 26th of September, 1817.
Plantation Nieuw Bendorff - bridges not made according to law; the road wanting weeding, and a hole in the same which must be filled up, and a rail put across to render it safe for passengers.
Plantation Dumburg - bridge as above, and the railing of the same altogether too slight.
Plantation Hooetgedagt - bridge dangerous, being almost entirely rotton [sic].
Plantation Maria Johanna - road wanting weeding, and the railings of the bridge to be fastened.
Plantation Rushbrook - bridges require new rails, and some earth at the corners.
Plantation Breemen - (a bush lot) requires the whole to be raised.
Plantation Twee Vrienden - both bridges in very bad order, and the road wanting weeding.
Bush Lot - (recently purchased by Mr. Bacon of Engel Rust) - now weeding; but wants raising, and the bridges [sic] is not according to law, being an old kokher [sic].
Plantation Belle Plaine - sluice's wings require to be filled up opposite the coopers' shop.
Plantation Friendship - bridges (three of them) in a general state of decay.
Plantation Sarah - the bridges of this estate being three in number, require to be entirely renewed.

Surveyed with Captain Thomas Burrows, on the 29th and 30th of September, 1817.
Plantation Elizabeth and Success - the road to the west of the Island, very rough and bad.
Plantation Doornhaag - road wants weeding.
Plantation Henrietta (belonging to de Groot) - bridge out of repair.
Plantation Windsor - has two very dangerous holes in the road.
West Coast, Up to the River Essequebo, [centered]
Surveyed with Captain the Hon. T. Dougan, on the 3d October, 1817.
Plantation Fairfield and Hybernia - bridges all very bad, and must be replaced.
Plantation Good Hope (belonging to J. J. Deeges) - bridge out of repair.
West Sea Coast, Down the River, [centered]
Surveyed with Captain Edward Bishop, junr. on the 6th October, 1817.
Plantation Good Hope (belonging to Dr. Sessingh) - the bridges on the north side require repairs.
Batzeba's Lust - three bridges out of repair.
West Sea Coast District, from Copoca Creek, [centered]
Surveyed with Captain Spierinshoek, on the 7th and 8th October, 1817.
Plantation Main Stay - bridges require some earth to cover a part that stands up in the centre of it.
Plantation Tarsis - both bridges nearly rotten.
West Sea Coast, [centered]
Surveyed with Lieutenant John Fraser, on the 8th October, 1817.
Plantation Paradise - road not according to law, as it is smoused [sic] and made a front dam of.
The Second Fiscal, hereby gives notice to the several Proprietors, Administrators, Attornies, and others to whom the repair of the said bridges and roads, and removal of the said several nuisances and obstructions may belong, that time will be allowed for the said amendments, repairs, and removals respectively, until the 29th day of November, 1817, on or befor which day, the same must be completed to the satisfaction of the several Burgher Officers, in the respective districts above-mentioned, and by whom the said surveys respectively were made, and, that, if on or before that day, a certificate by such Officers respectively, shall be obtained, and transmitted to the Second Fiscal, at Sophienburg, in Tiger Island; or, to the office of Mr. Schaade van Wyk, Marshall [sic] for the district of Essequebo, residing on the Brick-dam, Stabroek, in George-town, - purporting and declaring, that the said repairs, amendments, and removals respectively, are well and sufficiently done, performed, and completed, and the same approved, upon personal inspection thereof, by such Burgher Officer, then, and in that case, the parties now in default, will not farther be troubled or molested for the same; but in all other cases, such proceedings will forthwith be had as may be necessary for the recovery of the fines, and farther compelling the parties now in default, to make the necessary repairs, amendments, and removals.
And whereas, certificates in writing, of the number of Slaves, and the quantity of Provision Grounds belonging to each plantation, have been in most cases received; but in some few cases, such certificates were not prepared ready to be delivered on the application of the Fiscal; all persons, who have made default in that respect, are requested to transmit forthwith, such certificates, to their respective Burgher Officer, by whom they may be transmitted to the Second Fiscal, in order, that the account and survey of Provision Grounds may be accomplished. And all persons, who have not on their respective Estates, or on some neighbouring lands, a quantity of Provision Grounds, in good cultivation, equal to one acre for every five negroes on and attached to their respective plantations, are hereby required forthwith to set out, plant, and bring in cultivation, the full quantity of Provision Ground required by law, whereof they will give notice as above mentioned, on pain of being prosecuted, for their neglected omission in that behalf, according to law. - Second Fiscal's Office, October 12, 1817.

At the Commissary Court, of the 3d of November, 1817, the following Transports and Mortgages, will be passed: -
1. By James Benney, transport of plantations Helena, Herstelling and Erkentenis, situate on the west bank of the Mahaica creek, with all their buildings, cultivations, slaves, and further appurtenances thereto belonging - to Thomas and William Fraser.
2. By Thomas and William Fraser, a first mortgage on said plantations Helena, Herstelling and Erkentenis, with all their buildings, cultivations and a number of 280 slaves - in favour of James Benney.
3. By Thomas and William Fraser, a first mortgage on 280 slaves, (names thereof to be seen at the Secretary's Office of this Colony) and a second mortgage on plantation Helena, Herstelling and Erkentenis, with all their buildings, cultivation and appurtenances and on the above number of 280 slaves - in favour of Messrs. M'Inroy, Parker, and Co. of Glasgow.
4. By Chorley and Cook, transport of the concession or lot No. 10, situate in Cumingsburg district - to Park Benjamin.
5. By Charles de L'Escaille and G. J. Goppy, a mortgage on plantation Nouvelle Flanders, situate on the west sea coast of Demerary, with all its cultivations, buildings, negroes, and further appurtenances thereto belonging - in favour of Messrs. Underwood, Hall, and Co. of London.
6. By J. H. Van Cooten, q.q. the Widow Van Der Haas, transport of the concession or lot No. -, situate in Werk en Rust district, bounded on the north by the road leading to the stelling of C. C. de Witt, on the east by the public road, on the south by the concession of A. M. Fogelmark, and on the west by the concession of C. C. De Witt, with all the buildings thereon, and in such manner as the same is at present railed in - to A. Van Der Haas.
7. By the trustees of the estate of C. Clifton, decd. thereto duly authorised by appointment of his Honor the President, bearing date 10th October, 1817, transport of the 1/2 concession or lot No. 25, at present known sub No. 46, situate in Werk en Rust district, with all the buildings thereon - to Peggy Crone.
8. By Peggy Crone, transport of the above - to Mary Sampson.
9. By Mary Sampson, transport of the above - to James Cuming.
10. By one of the Sworn Clerks in the Secretary's Office, thereto duly authorised by appointment of His Honor the President, bearing date the 11th October, 1817, transport of the concession or lot at present known sub No. 40, situate in Werk en Rust district, to Louisa and John Mercant. 11. By the attorney of the Representatives of Thomas Cuming, deceased, transport of the concession or lot No. 189, situate in Cumingsburgh district - to Richard Benjeman, free coloured man.
12. By W. N. Firebrace, transport of the water lot No. 10, situate in Cumingsburgh district - to Park Benjamin.
13. By Idem, transport of the water lot No. 11, situated in Cumingsburgh district - to J. J. Gilgeous.
14. By Richard Harding, transport of the concession or lot No. 100, situate in Cumingsburgh district - to the Widow of J. W. Thomas.
15. By the curator of the estate of E. A. J. Philippart, deceased, transport of the concession or lots No. 10 and 13, situate in Charles Town district, with all the buildings thereon - to J. P. Muncker.

17. By John Teschemaker, sole representative of the heir of the late Anthony Thierens, transport of one hundred acres land, more or less, situate between plantations De Liefde and Domburg on Wackenham Island, Essequebo - to the estate of the late Mrs. J. 18. By J. Van Koetsveld du Crocq, attorney of John Helmers, one eighth part in the plantation Vrouw Anna, situate on Leguan Island, with all the buildings, cultivations, slaves, and appurtenances - to Miss Catharine Rebecca Helmers Bonjes.
19. By Sarah Barry, transport of the north half of the concession or lot No. 86, situate in Cumingsburgh - to Nancy Roach, free coloured woman.
20. By the attornies of the executors of Duncan Campbell, deceased, transport of 26 slaves; to Messrs. Watson and Walker.
21. By Watson and Walker, a mortgage on the above and 15 additional negroes, names to be seen at this Office, in favour of the attornies of the executors of D. Campbell, deceased.
22. By the attornies of the executors of Duncan Campbell, deceased, transport of seventy eight slaves; to John Fraser.
23. By John Fraser, a mortgage on said 78 slaves and 30 additional negroes, names to be seen at the Secretary's Office of this Colony, to the attornies of the executors of Duncan Campbell, deceased.
24. By the attornies of the executors of Duncan Campbell, deceased, transport of plantation Park, situated on the east side of Mahaicony Creek, together with 52 slaves, all the buildings, cultivation, and further appurtenances, to G. M. Forbes and Thomas Richardson.
25. By G. M. Forbes, and Thomas Richardson, a mortgage on the above estate, in favour of the attornies of the executors of D. Campbell, deceased.
26. By the attornies of the executors of Duncan Campbell, a transport of fifty two slaves, names thereof to be seen at this Office, in favour of James Walcot [sic].
27. By James Walcot [sic], a mortgage on the above fifty two negroes, names to be seen as above, in favor of the attornies of the executors of Duncan Campbell, deceased.
28. By Robert Keltie, transport of eight negroes, names thereof to be seen at the Secretary's Office of this Colony, to John Frost.
29. By the representative of the heirs of Thomas Cuming, deceased, transport of Lot No. 204, situate in Cumingsburg district, to G. M. Forbes.
30. By James Jackson, a first mortgage on forty two slaves, names to be seen at this Office, in favour of Douglass [sic], Gallaway, & Co.
31. By Joseph Hadfield, transport of the concessions or lots Letters D and H, situate in Murray-square, Cumingsburg, with the buildings thereon, to James and George Thomson, free coloured children.
